Jose E. "Joe” Maestas February 23, 1921 " June 5, 2008 Age: 87 Residence: Greeley, Colorado Tribute: Jose E. "Joe” Maestas was born in Taos, New Mexico to Francisco and Juanita (Vigil) Maestas. On November 18, 1940 he married Sophie Fernandez in Taos, NM. In 1949 they selected Ault-Pierce, Colorado as their home where they would raise their family. Mr. Maestas worked on the Stoke Morita farm for many years before he started working for the Highland RE-9 School District as the Pierce school custodian and bus driver. He retired in 1988. Following retirement Mr. Maestas devoted his life to his life-long love, Sophie and his family. Family came first and foremost. Even as age advanced and health issues came more frequently, his family remained his number one priority. Mr. Maestas loved the agriculture environment, the excellent education opportunity provided to his children and the friendliness and accepting attitude that Ault-Pierce gave him throughout his life. Health issues forced Mr. Maestas and his wife to sell their Pierce home in 2005. They moved to the Bonnel Good Samaritan Community where they proceeded to make many new friends and live in a comfortable and safe environment. Mr. Maestas's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Daniel Clang, Dr. James Lee, the ICU nurses and staff, as well as the Hospice and Palliative Care staff at the North Colorado Medical Center for the health care given to Mr. Maestas in his final days.
