Dr. Robert D. Jordan Jr. August 11, 1925 " May 14, 2008 Age: 82 Residence: Greeley, Colorado Tribute: Dr. Robert D. Jordan Jr. was born in Haxtun, Colorado to Dr. Robert D. and Betty (Edwards) Jordan Sr. His father, also a dentist, moved the family to Ault, Colorado in 1930. He graduated from High School in 1943 and joined the Navy at the age of seventeen. After Hospital Corps School and Field Medical School he was assigned to the 5th Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, CA. There he went through combat training and was eventually sent to Guam where the assault troops were assigned to Landing Craft Infantry to go to Iwo Jima. He was part of the second wave of marines to hit the beach of Iwo Jima where they were ordered to secure the beach so supplies and equipment could land. Within five days Mount Saribachi was secured and the American flag was raised on the summit. Dr. Jordan was on Iwo Jima for fifteen days before he was wounded and left the island. While he was in the hospital in Glenwood Springs, Co, the governor sent an aide to take him to Denver to spend the day with Mr. Bradley and Mr. Gagnon, two of the three survivors of the flag raising. They went to radio stations and were recorded for the Bond Drive. After being discharged from the hospital, Dr. Jordan went to the University of Denver in 1945. After receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree, he entered the University of Kansas City Dental College and graduated in 1954. He then joined his father’s dental practice in Ault where he practiced till July, 2007. Dr. Jordan loved dentistry, fishing, golf, spending time with his children and their families and his loyal staff of 23 years, Les Page and Kim Patterson. He also enjoyed his Sunday breakfasts with Herm Akers and Marge O’Neill. The family expresses it’s deepest gratitude to Les Page and Kim Patterson for their devotion and compassion as employees, friends and caregivers. Dr. Jordan died Wednesday, May 14, 2008 in Greeley.
