Leslie Jean Byrd was the seventh of nine children born to William and Selena Byrd, in Huntington, West Virginia. Les proudly served his country in both the Navy (1946-1948) and the Army (1950-1956). He joined the Colorado State Patrol in 1958, and retired as a Sargent in 1983. While working as a patrol officer Les met and married Grace Sanford in 1959. They had twin daughters, Valerie and Tricia, and their son, Michael. Les is survived by his three children and their spouses, Mark, Tom and Sandra; along with nine much-loved grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Les is also survived by an older sister, Lorene, and his youngest brother, Edwin; along with many nieces and nephews. The family is saying, “see you soon, Papa” instead of goodbye. Because of our faith in Jesus, we have great confidence that we will be together again. “And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.” 1 John 5:20 In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Gary Sinise Foundation https://www.garysinisefoundation.org/ who honors veterans, first responders, and their families in need or crisis. Les finished well.
