Delbert Delano Woodall

Delbert Delano Woodall at the age of 88, went home to be with the Lord on April 8, 2023, after spending the last of his days with his loved ones by his side. Delbert was born to Frank Woodall and Lydia Williams (Rice) on October 23, 1934, in Bradley, Illinois. He grew up on a farm with his family and in September of 1946 when he was 12 years old, he attended Chaddock Military School for Boys in Quincy Illinois until he was 14. He went to High School and worked various jobs, including the Steak and Shake, which is a fast-food restaurant. On October 26th, 1951, at the age of 17, he joined the United States Air Force. Delbert was on active duty as an SP, (Security Police) for four years. 1-1/2 years of that time frame was spent as foreign service in Okinawa, Japan, and at Clark AFB, in the Philippines. He was an Airman 2nd Class (A/2C) and received 3 Medals – The Korean Service Medal, The UN Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. He stayed on with the Military for another 4 years as an Inactive Reserve at Parks AFB near San Francisco, CA until he was honorably discharged on September 30th, 1959. After being discharged from the Air Force he traveled to Denver Colorado, where his mom, Lydia lived, and he started working for the Yellow Cab Company and continued to work there for approximately 30 years. During his employment he received a great amount of safe driver awards. After working for the Yellow Cab Company, He drove and delivered car parts for different dealerships.  In 1958, Delbert married Pearl Ann Wise. Along with her son Bradley, Delbert and Pearl had three more children, Kathleen, Robin, and Dean. After their divorce he then married Dorothy Mae Woodall (Sams) on June 20th, 1963, and together they had one child, Alan Woodall. They were married for 49 years until her death on July 30th, 2012. Over the years, Delbert loved to spend time with family. He especially loved his mom, Lydia. (who made the best peanut butter fudge ever) He was always asking others to make him some of that special peanut butter fudge. He enjoyed sitting down to a nice meal which might include fried pork chops, mashed potatoes, and green beans. And was always happy to share what little he had. He loved traveling and taking mountain drives up to Buffalo Bills Grave. He especially loved to go gambling in Las Vegas, Nevada; and in Central City and Black Hawk, Colorado. Photography was his passion. He owned many cameras and had taken tons of Photos over the years. In the end, many family members enjoyed looking through multiple boxes and containers of slides and pictures in search of their favorite memories. Delbert was a little rough around the edges but, once relaxed, he had a great sense of humor which everyone enjoyed. He attended a Lutheran Church during his younger years where he was baptized. He then rededicated his life to Jesus in 2021 with the help of his nephew Steven, a Minister & Teacher. Steven said, “after many years of saying no to the invitation to accept Christ and after many prayers had been prayed for him, I asked him once again if he was ready to surrender his life to Jesus. It was obvious his heart had softened and changed, and he was ready to believe and surrender and he did. Praise God! I believe he died with hope in Christ.”  Family who went before Delbert was predeceased by his wife Dorothy, mother Lydia, brother Robert and wife, Elizabeth Udel, and nieces, Cathy, and Sharon. Family he left behind He is survived by his five children: Bradley and Carolyn, Kathleen and Mike, Robin and her husband Burt, Dean and Bonnie, and Alan. He leaves behind six grandchildren: Ethan, Molly, Devon, Amber, Kelsey, and Travis; and three great-grandchildren: Morgan, Alexis, and Taya; and one great-great grandson: Huntington Hayes. He also leaves behind many other family members including his nephew, Steven and nieces, Teresa and (Tom), Laura and (Harold), Kristina, Carol, and their families.
