Vernon Gotfred Lund

Born in Luck, Wisconsin to dairy farmers Louis and Hazel Lund, Vern was the third of eight children. As a teen he moved to Los Angles to live with his aunt and uncle where he studied to be an electrician and joined the Merchant Marines during WWII. He worked briefly in Newport in 1941 before a more permanent move to Oregon in 1949. He worked as an electrician on large construction projects. Throughout his years as an electrician, in addition to working in Oregon, Vern worked in Alaska, Washington, and California. Vern was especially proud of his 67 years as a member of the IBEW 280 Vern married Elaine Arthur in 1951. They were married 60 years, until her death in 2011. Vern and Elaine made their home in Salem until 1978, at which time the couple moved to Hermiston, followed by a move to Palm Springs, CA. Upon retirement, Vern and Elaine made their home in Newport from 1992 until 2010 when they moved to Newberg, OR in order to be closer to their daughters. Vern is preceded in death by his wife Elaine, and daughter Janet Nolan. He is survived by daughters Kathrine Maley and Teresa Conrad of Tualatin, 4 grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. Vern loved Oregon, camping, fishing, gardening, sitting on the tail gate of his truck, new cars, and organizing his tools. A memorial service will be held Tuesday Sept. 18th at 2:30 in at Chehalem Springs Assisted Living in Newberg, OR In remembrance of Vern and his encouraging words “go to school” he shared with the care-givers at the assisted living where he lived the past 2 ½ years, the family would like to ask that remembrances go to a scholarship fund. This would be a one-time fund which would award the recipient(s) a one-time scholarship payable to the college of his/her choice. At this time, the donation would not be tax-deductable.
