Pat Halley was born on June 18th, 1957 to Deloris June Halley (Huenergardt) and Lloyd Eldean Halley in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado. He was the 3rd born child of the marriage and when he was still very young his parents moved to the Oregon coast where he lived in Depoe Bay and Newport. In 1963 his parents separated and he moved back to Colorado with his mother and 5 siblings where he attended the school in Arapahoe, straight through to graduation in 1975. During his time in school Pat demonstrated a keen intellect and interest in science and chemistry. His hobbies included chemistry, archery, & model rocketry to name just a few. While in high school Pat was a very impressive and dynamic individual as well as a gifted athlete and he excelled at the sports of football, basketball, and track. One summer during his teenage years he attended Camp Como, a Christian church camp, and while there he met and fell in love with Cheryl Eddy of Colorado Springs, whom he later married. They lived in Cheyenne Wells for a short time and they then moved to Colorado Springs where Pat learned the trade of cabinetmaking from Cheryl’s father. Taking his newfound skills to Portland, Oregon he set up a business, Halley’s Woodworking, where he designed and built bookcases & furniture for homes and businesses. Pat worked hard to make his company succeed and it was indeed very successful for several years, growing to a peak of approximately 60 employees with a factory in Tigard, Oregon and one in Seattle, Washington with a total of 7 showrooms. He accomplished this by the ripe old age of 23. During the early 80’s the United States was in a deep recession, much like today, and the running joke in the Northwest was, “Last one out of Seattle, turn off the lights”. As you can imagine, it was not the best time for a furniture company to expand and Halley’s Woodworking was forced to close. After the failure of the business, Pat’s life took some wrong turns, including a divorce and subsequent involvement with drugs, resulting in chemical imbalances which resulted in damage to his intellect and personality. Although much of his intelligence remained, his ability to focus and apply it was severely compromised and as a result, the quality of his life suffered greatly. Pat passed away on March 15th at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Portland due to various health complications at the age of 53. He was preceded in death by his mother and father as well as his younger brother Douglas. His is survived by his older brother and sister, Mike Halley of St. Louis Missouri and Donna Halley of Vancouver, Washington. His is also survived by his younger brother and sister, Russ Halley of Portland, Oregon and Sandy Jaacks of Flandreau, South Dakota as well as his daughter Kelsy Bennett of Tigard, Oregon.
