Lorraine J. King

Lorraine King passed away March 31st at the age of 84. Lorraine was born in Portland on June 29, 1929 to Glen and Helen King. She graduated from Canby High School in 1947 and was a life long tennis fan. Lorraine worked at Omark Industries as well as on her family's farm and rental property. She loved the outdoors and shared her passion on camping trips with her "adoptive family" of friends who grew closer over the years. Day trips to Pacific City and Silver Falls, picking huckleberries on Mt. Hood, and fishing at Trillium Lake all became regular family outings. Perhaps most prized were camping trips to Timothy Lake in August after berry harvest was over, with days spent floating patched-up inner tubes on the lake and nights spent roasting hot dogs and marshmallows around the camp fire. Lorraine was a hard worker. Invited as a guest for a holiday meal, she would bring her own potato peeler to ensure she would not be shut out of helping prepare supper, and would all but kick the cook out of the kitchen after dinner to make sure she could help with dishes. Harvest time would find her picking berries, snapping green beans, and packing fruit into mason jars to store up over winter. She loved children and spent a geat deal of time teaching them to fish, pick berries, and play various card games. She had an infectious laugh and an impish smile, a twinkle in her eyes, whether winning or losing, she was just happy to be part of the fun. Lorraine made an incredible impact to the lives of her loved ones. She imparted an appreciation of nature, a wisdom for the ages, and an incredible love for life. She will be greatly missed. A celebration of life service will be held at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made in Lorraine's memory to Doernbecher Children's Hospital or The Salvation Army.
