Phyllis Elizabeth Riddell-Shapiro
March 21st, 1919 - October 2nd, 2015
Phyllis Riddell-Shapiro was born in Portland on the first day of spring, 1919, to Frank Albert and Sylvia Caroline (Phillips) Bullington. In 1921, the family moved to Kansas City, Missouri and in 1933, moved again to Los Angeles, California. After her mothers death in 1937 and her fathers death in 1938, Phyllis came to Portland to study at Reed College. April 5, 1942, Phyllis married Robert Anderson Riddell who died in 1988. June 13, 2004, Phyllis married Robert L. Shapiro who died in 2007. Phyllis was the only grandchild of William Renton and Marion Hazeltine (McClaire) Phillips. She is survived by four children, Stephen T Riddell (Diane Chellis), James S Riddell (Penny), Cathy Riddell (Diane Wells) and Susan V Hill; a son-in-law, Gary R. Hill; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and her companion, Joseph Bashlow. Phyllis was famous for her smile, her buoyant optimism, her fervent political passions, and her desire to keep family and friends connected. She will be deeply missed. A memorial service with opportunities for sharing will be held at 2 pm, Sunday, October 25, 2015, at Riverview Cemetery Chapel, 0300 S.W. Taylors Ferry Road.
