Marguerite Louise Hollander
March 21st, 1917 - February 6th, 2013
Marguerite was born and raised on a farm in Sartell, Minnesota along the banks of the Mississippi River. She was the youngest of 11 children and spent a lot of time helping her Mom in the kitchen where she developed amazing cooking skills. She was married in 1942 after her husband, “Jack,” survived the attack on Pearl Harbor. Over the next seven years she gave birth to her 3 sons. When Jack returned from the war they settled in Minneapolis. In 1957 they moved to Salinas, CA and in 1961 they moved to Portland and fell in love with the Pacific Northwest. “Rite” was a homemaker who would do anything for her family and friends. Jack, her three boys, and 7 grandchildren were the center of her life and she was always there when needed. Her life was dedicated to helping others. She was always volunteering and even in her golden years Rite volunteered at Loaves and Fishes in Multnomah. Rite’s 52 years as a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church provided her with a community of friends and spiritual growth. Her family is most grateful for the St. Andrews community who gave her support and love until the end of her days. She was also a former Elder, and part of the Mariners group. “Rite” is survived by Son; Bart Hollander (Wife Sandy) Medina, Texas, Bruce Hollander (Wife Marsy) Dallas, Texas, Brian Hollander (Wife Judy) Anchorage, Alaska; 7 Grandchildren, and 11 Great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by: Husband, John (March 15, 1992), and 10 Brothers and Sisters. A Memorial Service will take place at 1:30 PM on February 16, 2013, at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 3228 SW Sunset Blvd, Portland, OR 97239 (Phone: 503- 246-4276) Memorial Contributions to: St. Andrew’s Memorial Fund Contact Person regarding this obituary: Brian Hollander (907-545-5484), or Bruce Hollander (817-228-2934)
