Regina Mary Mitchell
February 14th, 1927 - September 2nd, 2019
Regina was born on February 14, 1927 to Stanko and Regina Kukulan. Her parents immigrated from Yugoslavia. Her father came over first in 1910 in order to work at the Gold Mill Mines as a Sampler. He worked hard and earned enough money to buy a home and bring his wife and 12-year old son, Vic, to the United States in 1923. Regina was baptized at Sacred Heart Church in 1927 and was a life-long member of the Church. She learned to speak English from the nuns at Sacred Heart and graduated from Palmer High School in 1946. She married in 1948 and had three daughters, Karen, Joan and Judy. In her early years, Regina was known as Mary and worked as a dental assistant at a local dentist's office and then for 30+ years at Fort Carson. She provided for her daughters and mother and ensured her daughters received twelve years each of Catholic education at Sacred Heart Elementary School and Saint Mary's High School. She enjoyed traveling and you could always catch her going on long walks. She would walk 5 miles a day and then gradually walked a mile a day until she was 91 years old. One of her favorite things to do was walk through the Garden of the Gods and look out of her home at Pikes Peak and the Garden of the Gods. She is survived by her three daughters (Karen Miller and her husband, Ken, Joan Stephens and Judy Mitchell) and has four grandchildren (Michael Miller, Amanda Luecke, Bradley Stephens and Erin Stephens) and four great grandchildren (Ashley, Brooke and Lauren Luecke and Katelyn Miller). Her grandkids often called her GG. Regina died on September 2, 2019 after a short battle with cancer.
