Charles Pierce Hess - Born September 3, 1922 in Monterey, Virginia, to Mary (Chew) and Clarence Camden Hess. Both deceased. Brother Thomas Chew Hess died 4-20-1982. Enlisted in Regular Army 1940, served in the European Theater 1942-1945. Reenlisted in Army Air Force after WWII, discharged from military U.S. Air Force 1956. Medical disability 50%. Married Edna L. Fleenor, a school teacher in Canby area, in 1969. Bought property and moved to Needy area in 1971, Edna retired from teaching from the 91 School District in 1977, and died in 1986. Charles leaves two sons, previous marriage, Charles N. and Terry L. Hess; three step-daughters; Anna L. (Laurie) Phillips of Canby, Patricia (Trish) McDonough of Canby, Jacquline (Jackie) Baird of Oregon City; one step-son Dr. William L. (Bill)) Stewart of Bend. Eight granchildren & seven great-grandchildren. Charles was a member and attended First Baptist Church of Oregon City. Was a life member of Disabled American Veterans.
