Kathleen Campbell

Kathleen Campbell died peacefully in the hospital after bravely fighting pancreatic and hepatic illness for eight weeks. Kathleen had recently retired as a full professor from the United States Military Academy at West Point, where she taught Organizational Behavior, Leadership, and Management, and previously was on the faculties of the National University of Singapore (1993-1999) and Bowling Green State University (1977-1993). She graduated from Fordham University, earned her masters degree from Hunter College, and her Ph.D from Purdue University. After retirement, Kathleen and her husband, Don, moved to Colorado Springs, where they enjoyed western life with their border collie Allie and cat Sammy. Kathleen became something of an amateur naturalist and birder at the couples mountain retreat in Westcliffe, Colorado. Kathleen was known for her generous spirit, gregarious personality, and fierce intellect. Happy to take charge and always ready for spirited conversation, Kathleen was a superwoman: accomplished researcher, loving wife and mother, mentor, tireless world traveler, voracious reader, and a patient, compassionate teacher. She loved nurturing young men and women, helping them become better thinkers and ethical leaders. She wanted to make a difference, to make the world a little better. She would be pleased if her friends and colleagues, in assessing her life, concluded, as we have, that in this she succeeded. Kathleen is survived by her husband, Don, her sons, David and Andrew, her sister, Patricia, her brothers, Michael and William, and their spouses, David, Brenda, and Terry, and six nieces and nephews, Sean, Chris, Michael, Corey, Alexandra, and Billy. She brought joy to all who knew her, and she is dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kathleen's name can be made to the World Wildlife Fund or UNICEF.
