Barbara Ann Wienecke departed this world and went to her home in Heaven on November 1st, 2018 (All Saints Day). She was born Barbara Ann Oehrle on September 1st, 1933 , in Denver, Colorado and was reared there. She was the youngest of three children of Leslie and Nora Oehrle. She graduated from St. Francis De Sales High School in Denver in 1951 as the class valedictorian. She worked as a private secretary for the actuary of an insurance company before marrying Donald R. Wienecke on July 17th, 1954. Donald and Barbara made their home in many places over their 64 year marriage but settled eventually in Fairplay, Colorado during summers and in winters they lived in the Phoenix, Arizona area. Barbara made a beautiful and welcome home for her family. She and her husband reared eight children including Christopher (Terri Urbanowski), Donna Jacobs (Lynn), David (Sharon), Vincent (Vicki), Mary Jo Swanson (Rob), Kathleen Garrett (Gary), Teri Udey (David) and Gretchen Kretschmer (William). This amazing nurturer leaves behind 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Additionally, it is impossible to count how many people Barbara was a substitute mother, grandmother and just all-around wise counselor to, over the years. There are many dozens. Barbara was a very devoted and faithful member of the Catholic Church and was extremely active in each parish where she served including Divine Redeemer Church in Colorado Springs, St. Marys Cathedral in Colorado Springs, St. Lukes Church in Phoenix and St. Josephs Mission in Fairplay, CO. In each parish she lent her beautiful singing voice to the church choir as a regular member and frequent soloist and she was also an accomplished pianist. During the same time she raised eight children she also made time to work in her church offices. She and her husband provided pre-marriage counseling at St. Marys Cathedral in Colorado Springs and she was also the secretary to the Director of Religious Education there. She organized the Bishops Guild of Southern Colorado and served as its first president. Barbara volunteered for the Special Victims Assistance Team of the Colorado Springs Police Department and Silver Key Services due to her special ability to empathize and aid so many people. Throughout her incredible, busy life, Barbara had a wonderful sense of humor and relayed great stories better than anyone. Everyone knew that her husband and family were the most important things in her life and that she treated them that way. She also enjoyed trout fishing, family camping and was an avid reader. She lived a magnificent life and left an incredible legacy in her children, her grandchildren and her great- grand children. She will truly never be forgotten.
