Robert Shurtleff
April 15th, 1944 - December 22nd, 2018
It is with great sadness that the family of Robert Neal Shurtleff, PhD announce his passing on December 22, 2018 after a long struggle with Alzheimers Disease. Born to Neal and Vernon Shurtleff on April 15th 1944 in Houston, Texas, he excelled at academics, particularly the sciences. He married Weida Anderson in 1969 where they lived in Austin, Texas while he completed his post-graduate studies. He was always a dedicated and hard worker, evidenced by his agreement with his father that if he dug the hole in their back yard for a pool, his father would have the pool installed. They had a pool that summer! Known as Bob by his friends and family, he received his doctorate in Physics from the University of Texas in 1971. He was quickly hired by Texas Instruments in the Dallas area where he worked until 1982. In 1982, he took on a role at Golden Geophysical, later acquired by Fairfield Industries, where he advanced to the role of Vice President of Research and Development. Throughout his career, Bob demonstrated his ability to innovate and creatively apply his intelligence and talent. In his family life, he built custom electronics and furniture. Professionally, he strove to develop the fastest and most intelligent methods for processing geologic data for the oil and gas industry. He also loved model trains and golf. He even built his own set of custom golf clubs. Retiring from Fairfield industries in 2009, Bob spent his time enjoying his family, children and grandchildren. Even in late stages of Alzheimers he acknowledged his family who loves him very dearly. Returning to our Lord ahead of Bob are his parents and only sibling Michael, lovingly known as Mickey by friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Weida, Children Tiffany and Jennifer, and Grandchildren Dante, Arianna, Carina, Layne and Penny.
