Obituary Stephen Christian Hofmann II May 17 1949 to March 25 2016 Stephen Christian Hofmann passed away on March 25, 2016 at the Brookdale Assisted Living facility in Colorado Springs at the age of 66. He suffered from Parkinsons disease. Steve was born on May 17, 1949 in Colorado Springs to parents Stephen Christian Hofmann & Esther E. Miller Hofmann. He was the fifth of six children and the youngest boy. He was married to Rebecca Ann Layne from 1970 1986 and they had 3 children: Ben, Christy and Joe. Later he was married to Svetlana Chirkova from 2000 to 2005 and the two of them remained very good friends until his death. Stephen was enthusiastic about education and earned his bachelors degree. And two Masters degrees from Colorado Tech: one in Business and another in Administrative Management. He served in the US Navy from 1969 1975 as a nuclear power operator. For part of that time he served on the USS Enterprise, and was involved in the final evacuation of Vietnam. After his years of service he returned to his hometown of Colorado Springs. Steve retired from Fed-Ex. Steve loved travel and adventure. He travelled through the United States, Japan, Russia, Canada and Mexico. By far his favorite hobby was motorcycle riding (although he also spent several years ballroom dancing). In 1999, Steve parleyed his love of motorcycle touring and his love of Mexico and the Mexican people into a hobby business he named 'Manana Moto Tours'. The company organized and led tours of Mexico aboard motorcycles. The tours led motorcyclists through some of Mexico's most beautiful country on roads consisting of paved and gravel, depending on the wishes of the riders. The Mexican routes covered some of Mexico's most historic sites from the deepest canyons to the old Spanish colonial heart of central Mexico. Many motorcyclists were introduced to Mexico through these tours. Steve remarked many times that his happiest days were aboard his motorcycle somewhere deep in Mexico with a group of riders he would soon call life-long friends. The word 'manana' in Spanish translates to 'tomorrow, in the morning, or in some contexts, No Hurry'. Steve's philosophy of motorcycle touring was to slow down and enjoy the sites as well as the motorcycle. Steve will be missed by people north and south of the border. As is often said in Spanish, 'via con dios', go with God. Stephen is survived by his children: Ben Hofmann & Christy Freeborn and their spouses, his grandchildren: Takara Hofmann, Cody Freeborn, Caroline Freeborn and Ethan Asher, 3 of his siblings, Dan Hofmann, Linda Orman, and Cindy Duke, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Joseph Hofmann and his siblings: Dianne Brown & Tomlin Hofmann. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 27th at 11:00 am at Cappadona Funeral Home in Colorado Springs Services Cappadona Funeral Home 1020 E Fillmore St Colorado Springs, CO 80907
