Obituary Richard Lewis Carter was born on January 24, 1940 in Phoenix, AZ. He passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, November 13, 2016 in Colorado Springs, CO at the age of 76. Rich is survived by his wife, Bette Carter; sister, Carol Carter; his children, Douglas (Patricia) Bright, Dan (Julie) Bright, Kelley Carter and Karin (John) Heckathorn; and grandchildren, Dana Bright, Joey Knowles, Carter Heckathorn and Christian Heckathorn. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis "Pete" and Mildred Carter. Rich grew up in the oil fields around Coalinga, California where he enjoyed all the hunting, fishing, and water sports that the outdoor life of California offered. Upon high school graduation, he served in the US Army and the Army Reserves. Rich and Bette married on October 9, 1976 and they blended their families together. In 1975 he began Carter Painting Service in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He retired at the age of 74. Richs hobbies included anything related to the outdoors; he loved hunting, fishing and camping in the beautiful state of Colorado. When he was not working or fishing he spent his time serving his local church. He used his construction skills and musical ability to bless the church.
