William Mahar
June 28th, 1953 - August 5th, 2017
Obituary William Patrick Mahar. Born June 28th 1953. Passed 8/5/2017. Greatness is perceived in many ways... To measure a man by how much good he does in the world, is essential. There are few of us who are willing to give everything. To be uncompromisingly unselfish. Mr. Mahar became a teacher, after a career in the automotive industry. He and his wife Marilyn decided to move to Colorado, after meeting in, and both growing up in Illinois. Bill was a graduate of Downers Grove North High School class of 1971. Bill first attended college at the University of Wisconsin Platteville. He told stories of playing football, and trying to master the sport of gymnastics. An injury, and tuition cost would bring him back home. Bill would attend other colleges, but never stuck to one place. Marilyn met Bill in the mid 70's. As the story goes: she disliked Bill 'very much.' As Bill was well known for having a fast car, and being able to walk from place to place on his hands. He was also a bit of a 'show-boat.' She fell for him, and they were married November 6, 1976. After heading west, Bill and Marilyn were blessed with a daughter Marie. And soon after. Were blessed with a way better looking son, BJ. Mr. Mahar found his knack for teaching in 1998. After a he dipped his toe into coaching. Roy J Wasson High School hired him as a vocational teacher, for the fall semester. And he was hooked! He found his work to be more rewarding than anything he had ever done. This is when he truly blossomed. Bill found that helping people figure out the nightmares of high school was his calling. He also found he could be closer to his children. He continued to help others until his final days. He was especially excited for the upcoming school year. Coach Mahar's cheerleading days, were special. Such memories, and friends we all made. Q.Y.B.C. Car guys know him as 'Mahar.' As this was his given teaching name. Provided by the very many he taught through the program he created. The RJWAC. (Roy J. Wasson Academic Campus) He turned knuckle-heads into gear-heads. Mahar was the teacher that students defended. The countless hours and dollars donated by Bill and Marilyn over the years to students is inspiring. The Mahar's are well known around Colorado Springs. We know it's because of his impact on others, and his impact on us. Bill is preceded in death by his Pop-pop Everett Havens. His mother Marilyn R. Havens. His sister Kim Harris. His grandmother Arrahwanna Mahar. His stepfather Kirby Harris. His uncle Jim Mahar. He is survived by: his wife Marilyn J. Mahar. His daughter Marie Arrahwanna Isner. His son William John Mahar. His father William George Mahar, and his wife Ida Mahar. His brother Patrick Mahar and family. His sister Shannon Scott and family. His brother Konrad Harris and family. His brother Nathaniel Harris and family. His brother Thomas Lavelle and family. This guy has five grandchildren at this time: William Jaxon Mahar (11). Kingstin A. Trujillo-Mahar (8). Evelyn 'bear' Isner (4). Ella 'boo boo' Isner (11mo). Hudson 'bubba' Isner (11mo). 'Racing isn't about how long it takes you to get from the start to the finish. It's the adventure you have along the way. The people you meet. And the unique moments you share.' -unknown Services Roy J. Wasson High School Auditorium 2115 Afton Way Colorado Springs, Colorado
