Memorial

Obituary Desmond Alexander Smith was born on June 23, 2001 to Brian M. Smith and Lateffa R. (Akers) Smith in the United Kingdom (England). Desmond and family moved to Colorado Springs in 2005 with his father who is a member of the USAF. He considered Colorado Springs, where he lived the majority of his young life, as his home. He received his public education from McAuliffe Elementary and North Middle School and was looking forward to attending Mitchell High School this year with his brother Michael. Desmond was a star athlete in football and basketball and played several positions in each sport. His tremendous athletic skills in football earned him the nickname of 'Headache' which he proudly wore on his jersey. Desmond received Jesus as his Lord and Savior last summer while visiting his grandparents in North Carolina. When Jesus said in Matthew 5:14 'Ye are the light of the world' he certainly was including Desmond. Desmond would bring cheerfulness and joy with a smile that would light the hearts of anyone in his presence. From his birth, Desmond's mom would constantly make him smile by singing the lullaby 'Momma's Baby' which may have attributed to his great smile of today. Desmond not only loved to smile, he loved people. Desmond leaves to cherish his memory his father & stepmother, Brian M. & Precious Smith, Peterson AFB, Colorado Springs, mother, Lateffa Smith, Houston,TX; brothers Christopher and Michael, and sister, Ayannah Smith all of Colorado Springs, CO; grandparents Alexander, III & Doris Smith, Pollocksville, NC, Renee & Danny Akers, Radford, VA, and Joseph Benson, Houston, TX; great grandparents David & Anna Lewis , Radford, VA; uncles, Terry & Yolanda Houston and Akeem Akers, all of Radford, VA; aunts, Cherylynne & Dirk Hennigan, stationed in Baumholder, Germany and Danielle & Justin Sanders, Radford, VA; He also leaves many other aunts and uncles, a host of cousins, extended family members and friends.
