Carole Alsup Hines
November 11th, 1933 - July 22nd, 2021
Edna Carole Alsup was born on November 11, 1933, to James Alton Alsup and Florence Cynthelia Graham Alsup in Freeport, TX. She passed from this world into the arms of Jesus on July 22, 2021. Carole was raised in a loving family at various towns along the Texas coast, in the shadow of the Coast Guard stations that her father commanded. She had four beloved siblings: Dolores, Bette Gay, Alton Jr., and Kay. After graduation from Port Isabel High School, she went to Texas A&I in Kingsville, majoring in English. While at A&I she met a dashing naval aviator at church who stole her heart. However, she left him behind to move to Houston and began a career at Humble Oil. Love won out over work and Carole married Robert Hines in May of 1956. They moved to Austin where Bob completed his engineering degree and their first child was born, Kenneth. Bob's work with Phillips Petroleum took them to various towns and at each one another child was born: Barbara in Odessa, TX, James in Bartlesville, OK, and Sharon in Borger, TX. After the children were born, the moves continued: Littleton, CO, Bartlesville, OK, Brenham, TX, Aurora, CO, Sugar Land, TX, and then back to Aurora. Though she gave up career for family, Carole always enjoyed working. She taught kindergarten one year, was church secretary at both Johnson Park Church of Christ in Borger, TX and Littleton Church of Christ, she worked in the accounting department at Public Service Company of Oklahoma, and spent several years working in the testing department at Aurora Community College. While in high school, Carole was voted Most Beautiful and Most Popular, and those adjectives stayed with her for her entire life. Carole's smile would light up a room and people loved to be her friend. She was a wonderful hostess: her yeast rolls and homemade pies were legendary. Holidays were celebrated with delightful meals and treats and special decorations throughout the home. She was a beloved Sunday School and Ladies' Bible Class teacher. Carole was an accomplished crafter and seamstress, making cross stitch pictures, clothing, curtains, and a number of special and beloved children's quilts. She had a great love of all flowers, and her home and garden always benefited from her green thumb. She was a skilled bridge player and enjoyed playing all sorts of games. Carole excelled in her role as mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her most loved role was that of Christian, and she served her Lord, Jesus Christ, all her days. Carole Hines is survived by her four children: Ken Hines and wife Sherri of Gladstone, OR, Barb Lussenhop and husband Kirk of Windsor, CO, Jim Hines and wife Shelly of Aurora, CO, and Sharon Kelley and husband Mark of Houston, TX. She is survived as well by 13 grandchildren: Kelli Hines, Bret Hines, Amy Hines, Shawna Nehl, Lester DeLashmutt, Coryn Reichenau, Brad Hines, Shane Reichenau, Mason Reichenau, Trevor Kelley, Gretchen Kelley, Jovi Tarango and Cole Lussenhop. Carole is also survived by 10 great grandchildren: Levi and Sophie DeLashmutt, Olivia, Abigail and Elijah Hines, Ella, Carson, and Jaxson Tarango, and Jace and Raya Nehl. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Bob Hines, and by her sisters Dolores and Bette Gay. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Southeast Church of Christ, 14601 E.
