Carmen N. Walker

Carmen Nereida Acevedo Walker, age 73, passed away in hospice on June 24, 2020 in Denver, CO after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease. Carmen was born on March 29, 1947 in Isabela, Puerto Rico, to Jose Enrique Acevedo and Carmen Guevara. She spent most of her early adult life in New York, raising her own family after having moved there herself at a young age. Later in life she lived in Florida, Puerto Rico, California, and finally Colorado. Carmen was very dedicated to her family, and even helped take care of several of her grandchildren when they were young. Carmen loved to cook, and was even nicknamed "Grandma Cookie" by several of her nieces and nephews. Her grandchildren fondly remember their Abuela's fried chicken and tostones. Carmen also loved crafting, and picked up quilting later in life. Her favorite part of crafting was gifting her creations to those she loved. Carmen is predeceased by her parents. She is survived by and was the loving mother to Melissa Mason (Jon) of Old Saybrook, Connecticut, April Banaitis (Tim) of Aurora, Colorado and Keith Walker (Lorin) of Parker, Colorado. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Reagan Mason, Keaghan Banaitis, Ian Mason, Kaitlynn Banaitis, Gavin Banaitis, Aubrey Walker and Ivan Walker as well as her two sisters, Frances Rivera and Elizabeth Bernal. Carmen was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great aunt, and cousin, and will be missed by many. A celebration of her life will be held once it is safe for those who loved her to travel and gather together.
