Warren Lund
January 7th, 2017
Warren Lund Our loving husband, father and grandfather, Warren Arthur Lund, passed away in his sleep in the early morning hours of December 13th at his home in Eugene. He lived a vigorous and joyous 90 years and 2 months. Warren was the only child of Arthur E Lund and Fannie M Cooper, and was born in St. Helens, Oregon in the shadow of Mt. St. Helens. He was a good student and athlete at Scappoose High School. After high school he first attended Pacific University in Forrest Grove before getting his Bachelor’s degree from University of Oregon in 1948. He remained a Duck fan his entire life. He then went on to get his Masters in Education at Stanford in 1950. It was while he was a freshman at Pacific University that he met the love of his life, Phyllis Eileen Johanson, who had traveled down from her home in Tracyton, Washington to attend Pacific. He was the athlete while she was the homecoming princess. Their storybook courtship culminated in marriage on August 13th, 1950. They went on to have sons Grant, Greg and Gary. Dad used his education at Stanford to secure a math teaching job in Willamina, Oregon but he quickly realized that his goals did not lie in that arena. Various sales jobs took the family from place to place, even to Chicago while working for Swift and Co. But the family missed the Northwest and they moved back to Portland. All the while he kept looking for that job that was his calling. And in 1962 that opportunity presented itself, working with a start up wood putty company in Eugene. The two owners, Jim Gilkey and Paul Loepp, were looking for a dynamic, energetic salesman and they found one. Dad eventually bought in to the company as a partner and their firm rode the wave of plywood demand fueled by the housing boom of the 60’s and 70’s. The company prospered and they sold the firm in late 70’s. After retirement Warren and Phyllis moved out to their new solar home on Briggs Hill Road. The next 25 years were full of building barns and a log cabin, tending fence lines and unruly cattle, and entertaining family and friends. “Lundsholm”, as it was called, was a wonderful home for nearly three decades. In 2002 Warren and Phyllis moved back into Eugene, where they enjoyed their twilight years. Warren is survived by his wife of 66 years, their three sons, and grandsons Matthew and Brian. We would like to thank the wonderful support giving us during the past year from Hospice of Sacred Heart who helped us through this difficult time. And of course the loving care from family, friends and neighbors. There will be a Memorial of Warren’s life in the Sanctuary at First Congregation Church, on Saturday, January 7th, at 1:00 pm at 1050 E. 23rd Ave., Eugene, OR 97405. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests donations to the Eugene Mission. Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary.
