James was born in Glenns Ferry, Idaho, August 17, 1941 to William Haydon and Mabel Bernt Haydon. He was the youngest of four boys. His younger years were spent on the ranch in Glenns Ferry where he attended elementary school. They later moved to Mountain Home where he was involved in football and basketball and graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1960. James was offered a football scholarship at Boise State College, but instead chose to decline the offer to pursue other interests. In 1962, James married Teresa J. James had numerous jobs while raising his family including the Titan Missile Silo, Mountain Home Saw Mill, Northwest Pipeline and ended his career as the Elmore County Assessor for 20 years. He loved Idaho, Elmore County and Mountain Home and volunteered where ever needed. He was involved with coaching Optimist Football and was president of the Lions Club along with helping his daughters and friends with multiple school activities. His garage was a known place for Homecoming decoration headquarters for his daughters and their friends. He was known for his kindness, sense of humor, hugs and contagious laugh. After retirement, his spare time was spent driving down memory lane, geo-cashing, metal detecting, and his Saturday visits with his close friends. He loved spending time with his family and always had time to spend with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He leaves behind his wife Teresa J. Haydon, daughters Shawna Draper (Mark) and Shannon Reed (Brian); Grandkids Brei Riley (Scott), Allie Bundy (Nathan), Danielle Russell (Steven), Taylor Downs (Dustin), Haydon Draper (Audrey), Shayla Campbell (Michael). The family would like to thank First Choice Hospice and Rost Funeral Home along with many friends and family for their kindness during this hard time.

Rost Funeral Home
As the only funeral home in Elmore County, the staff at Rost Funeral Home work hard to be active members of the Mountain Home community and to be there to take care of families in every way possible when the need arises. Our funeral home opened in 2005 when Jerry and Janette Rost purchased the business. We’ve continued to grow along with Mountain Home. Jerry’s career began more than fifty years ago in Boise, and along the way, he acquired an 1897 horse-drawn funeral carriage, which we proudly display in our facility....
