April 6th, 1958 - November 13th, 2023
Sydney LaRae Hoagland Alvarez (65) passed away suddenly at home in Tucson, Arizona on November 13, 2023 in the presence of her loving husband Ciro. Sydney was born on April 6, 1958 to Verlyn and Myrle Hoagland in Mountain Home, Idaho. She was raised in Rockland and Aberdeen, Idaho and graduated from Aberdeen high school in 1976. At a very young age, Sydney was a fledgling cheerleader for her dad’s Rockland Bulldog basketball team. At Aberdeen High School, Sydney had many friends, served on the student council, participated in the pep club, drill team, choir, musicals, powderpuff sports, and was voted to have the ‘best laugh’ by her classmates. Sydney was a flight attendant for Delta Airlines for 16 years. She enjoyed serving her passengers and flying, especially trips to Hawaii. She also worked in retail for many years, most recently in Tucson at Fry’s. Sydney was a dedicated and loyal employee and was appreciated by her co-workers and customers. She retired in April. She married Ciro Alvarez on January 25, 2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They lived in Riverton, Utah for 11 years. Sydney and Ciro had a loving relationship and as Ciro states ‘we covered each other’s back’. Sydney had a wonderful relationship with Ciro’s mother Elsa. Their indulgence was enjoying and caring for their cats, Sebastien, Preston, Marcello and Lucretia. Sydney and Ciro enjoyed music, good food, red wine, and being with family and friends. Sydney was tender hearted, had a gentle soul and love for all animals and birds. Sydney is preceded in death by her grandparents Cecil and May Davis, and Richard and Wilma Hoagland; mother Myrle Hoagland; cousins Tony, Bruce, Ryan, and Diane. She is survived by her husband Ciro; father Verlyn; mother-in-law Elsa Alvarez; sister Deanna Allred (Tyler); brothers Steve (Tami) and Kevin (Sarah); nieces Janie, Caitlin, Savannah, Abbey Jo, and Stephanie; great nieces Victoria and Sienna; and great nephews Malcolm, Jon, Hendrix, Jett and Ledger. She is also survived by uncles Glenn Davis and Ron Hoagland; aunt Vicki Kahler; cousins RL, Greg, Robin, Rick (Teri), and Denise (Joe); and extended family Betty Jo and her children Melissa, ShaRee, and Michael and their families. A celebration of life will be held on December 2, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the Hammett Community Church, 9223 W Church Road in Hammett, Idaho. Lunch at the church and internment at the Glenn Rest Cemetery in Glenns Ferry, Idaho will follow. In lieu of flowers, Sydney would appreciate donations to your favorite animal rescue organization.
