Robert Barnum

Robert Barnum Robert (Bob) Barnum of Eugene died at home after a brief battle with lung cancer. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Geri, three children, Debra & Randy Jacobson of Panama City Beach, Florida, David & Leisa Barnum of Camarillo, California and Susan & Hugh Sanderson of Portland, Oregon; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Bob loved the outdoors and was an outstanding track and ski athlete setting many records at Lincoln High in Seattle. He earned an athletic scholarship to the University of Washington where he graduated with a degree in Forest Products in 1960 and was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. He continued to run, ski and hike well into his 70’s. He worked for Borden Chemical for 40 plus years, eventually becoming a Regional Sales manager. He was well liked by his customers and many became his good friends. Bob loved being with his family and watching his kids and grandkids play on various sport teams. He was often a chaperone for their away games, dances and various school events. Bob also participated in the University of Oregon Friendship Student Program for over 25 years hosting students from around the world. Some still keep in touch with the family and return for visits. After he retired, he had more time to devout to his garden which led him to become a Master Gardener. It brought him great joy to be able to share his produce with everyone and help others solve their garden problems. A Celebration of his Life will be held at Sweet Cheeks Winery 27007 Briggs Hill Road on September 6 from 6PM to 9 PM with a dessert reception serving up his favorite food---ice cream.
