John Patrick Green

John Patrick Green, 94, peacefully passed away from natural causes on May 26, 2018 at Grace Assisted Living in Boise. John was born in Jerome, Idaho on February 2, 1924 to Irene Donovan Green and Philo Green. Following high school, John enlisted in the Army Air Corp where he served in the 456th Bomb Group stationed in Italy. After WWII ended, He returned to Boise and began work at the Idaho Department of Employment. He attended night classes in business, worked hard and eventually earned the title of Chief of Employment Accounts. In 1947 John married Betty Matthews (Wennstrom). Together they had 3 children; Linda, Tom and Tim. After 20 years John and Betty divorced. Several years later John married Dorla (Paulson) Rodman who happily brought her 2 children, Laurie and Paul into the family. John and Dorla spent 43 loving years together, traveling, camping and maintaining a beautiful home where everyone was welcome. John’s home workshop always had a project in progress—one of them restoring Dorla’s ’55 Chevy. He enjoyed Big Band music, golf, and bowling. He was a member of The Warhawk Air Museum in Nampa, Idaho and a lifetime member of the Boise Elks. John was known for his consistent generosity. He gave freely of his time and support, always including a fair measure of gentle advice and guidance. And for the grandchildren, the piggy bank was always full! He took great pride in his children and taught them by example that a strong work ethic is an important key to success. John is predeceased by his wife, Dorla Green, his brothers, Dr. James Green and Thomas Green and by his stepson, Paul Rodman. He will lovingly be remembered by his surviving children Linda Hawkins, Tom Green (Jill), Tim Green (Debbie), and stepdaughter, Laurie Knight. John will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Erin Greer (Tyler), Erica Allen (Scott), Shauna Moore (Kameron), Monica Carlton (Ryan), Valerie Kilborn (Dion), Stuart Knight (Amy), Megan and Sarah (Kane), son-in-law, Dave Knight and by his great grandchildren, Zoe, Alexa, Ari, Nate, Laura and Madeleine. One thing to remember about John was that he had a big heart. He always put differences aside and was a loyal, devoted friend. He couldn’t hold a grudge if he tried. He once mentioned he wanted to start a national movement to re-introduce the peace pipe. He always strived to teach his children to love, to respect and to be kind to one another that they may grow with peace in mind. A graveside service in celebration of John’s life will be held for family and friends on Monday, June 4, 2018, at 3:15 pm at Morris Hill Cemetery, 317 N. Latah St., Boise, Idaho 83702. After the service, celebration will continue at the Golden Star Restaurant, 1142 N. Orchard St., Boise, Idaho 83706. In lieu of flowers you may make a charitable donation in John P. Green’s name to the Warhawk Air Museum in Nampa, Idaho at warhawkairmuseum.org
