David August Wegner, 90, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Meridian from injuries he sustained from a fall. His daughter and son-in-law were by his side. As the son of an Army Chief Warrant Officer, David had many fond memories of living in Panama, Fort Douglas in Utah and the Presidio of San Francisco. David graduated from Galileo High School in San Francisco. He spent 3 years in the Army and was stationed in Korea. After his military service, David worked as a driver for the United Parcel Service and he retired from Sea-Land Service as a manager in 1986. He enjoyed a long career that took him to Vietnam, Japan and back to Oakland, CA. After retirement, David worked part-time as a security officer. David and Betty Lou Nelson met in Palo Alto and they were married March 4, 1951. Dave and Betty made their first home in Cupertino, CA. Together they had two children, Don Wegner and Shirley Wegner Koch and soon moved to Sunnyvale, CA. Their next move took the family to Kobe, Japan for 2.5 years. Pleasanton, CA was their next home for 24 years before moving to the Sun City retirement community in Roseville, CA where they enjoyed 14 years of “resort like” retirement living. In 2009, they moved to Touchmark, a retirement community in Meridian, Idaho. Dave and Betty have many fond memories of traveling internationally and to numerous places across the United States in their motor home. David led an amazing life and was loved by everyone who met him. He enjoyed telling jokes, playing his harmonica and making people laugh.
