Summers Funeral Home
Maria L. Zabala
October 19th, 1944 - March 16th, 2022
Maria L. Zabala, 77, of Hammett, joined her family in heaven on March 16, 2022, at St Luke’s Boise hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Maria was born October 19, 1944, in Gautegiz de Arteaga, Bizkaia/Biscay Spain to Francisco Oar-Arteta and Adelayada Bastarrechea. The public viewing will be held Wednesday March 23rd at Summers Funeral Home, Ustick Chapel in Meridian, from 4-6 pm. The Rosary to follow at 7:00pm. Mass will be celebrated March 24th at 2:00pm at Holy Apostles Catholic Church. A private burial at Meridian Cemetery will be held at a later date. Maria immigrated to Idaho on March 11, 1967, and then married the love of her life, Julio Zabala, on April 1, 1967, and began working at Wilson & Wilson. She loved the ranch life: cooking, gardening, picking eggs, planting flowers, and taking care of everyone. Anyone who came to visit the ranch always had a full stomach, and good company. She always put others before herself. Her love was taking care of people, and everyone felt that. When someone was in need she would make food, knit blankets, say prayers, and help with anything else that was needed. She touched everyone that she came in contact with. Family was everything to her. She deeply loved Julio, her husband of nearly 55 years, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her love was unconditional. We knew never to argue with Ama/Muma because you would never win no matter how hard you tried. She always knew what was best for all of us even if we didn’t. Maria is survived by her husband, Julio; brother Alfonso Oar-Arteta; children David (Ronda), Ana, Elizabeth (Sy); grandchildren Justin, Kristin (Austin), Tyler, Devin, Madelyn; great grandchildren Grayson, Weston, Lincoln; extended family Ann Wilson and Mary Alyce and members of her ranch family; Jorge Carrillo, Javier Urquiola, Hector Lapa, and Cornelio Human. The family would like to thank St Luke’s Boise and their incredible doctors, nurses, and staff for everything they did for Ama/Muma.
