Raymond Bernard Daugherty

Raymond Bernard Daugherty, age 84 of Boise, Idaho passed away on Tuesday, October 10th in Boise. He was born on December 16, 1938 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Raymond Basil Daugherty and Sylvia Gertrude Moore Daugherty. Ray was a child prodigy who advanced through high school at an accelerated pace, graduating from a Catholic Latin school in Cincinnati at the age of 15. He also attended McNicholas High School. He continued his studies and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Xavier University, Cincinnati OH, and later earned a Master’s Degree in Religious Studies from Loyola University. Ray married June Feiertag in 1961 in Cincinnati, OH and together they had 4 children: Ray, Michele, Angie and Tim. Ray and June’s marriage ended in divorce after 12 years. In 1974, Ray married Rheda Halsey in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Rheda had one adopted son from her first marriage, Michael Hamm. After 5 years of marriage, Ray and Rheda gave birth to their daughter, Heather. Ray began his career during the advent of computing, starting as a data processor. He advanced through many technical and leadership roles while at Honeywell and Clopay in multiple locations. His commercial career culminated in business ownership along with his wife Rheda in R&R Enterprises, a computer system consulting and development firm. In mid-life, Ray & Rheda moved to Boise, Idaho along with Heather to embark on a new career chapter of service to the Catholic Church, with Ray working for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Boise in a fund-raising leadership role. Years later, Ray & Rheda purchased a religious articles and supply store, Reilly’s, which they ran for 12 years along with the help of their son in law, John McGiff. Ray can be described as an intellect, a man of profound faith, a son, a brother, a husband, a father, a step-father, a servant of the Church, a foster parent, a teacher, a grandfather, a great grandfather and a friend to many. He and Rheda raised money and support for the Catholic Church through extensive church speaking engagements to encourage faithful financial stewardship. Ray worked tirelessly alongside Rheda to lead Marriage Encounter Weekends, and to perpetually support couples in the sacrament of Marriage. Ray was an avid golfer and as a young man he played baseball in the minor leagues. He was the leader of several Church guitar groups in the 1970’s, and enjoyed all kinds of music, particularly orchestra music performed by the Boston Pops. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rheda Halsey Daugherty. He is survived by his brother Michael Daugherty, his first wife June Feiertag Daugherty, his children Raymond Daugherty, Michele Wales, Angela Garcia, Timothy Daugherty, and Heather McGiff, his step-son Michael Hamm, his grandchildren Anna Spycher, Raymond Daugherty, Erin Day, Jim Wales, Nick McLachlan, John McGiff, Joseph Wales, Peyton McGiff, Alexander McGiff, Corinne McGiff, Kelly Daugherty, Airoux Daugherty, and Avalyn McGiff, and great grandchildren Olivia Spycher, Alex Spycher and Nora Day. A vigil will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Friday, October 27th from 3:30 – 5:30. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 28th at 11:00 am, with the interment immediately following at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 811 S. Latah St., Boise, ID 83705.
