Norman Dahl
February 9th, 1932 - December 7th, 2014
My Life Story Norman Dahl, 82, Boise, Idaho, and formerly Mesa, Arizona, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014, at his home of causes related to cancer. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 12th at the Meridian Friends Church at 1021 W. Pine Ave. in Meridian. Please join the family for a meal at the church following the service. Norman was born February 9, 1932 in Stanley, North Dakota to Nick and Josephine Dahl. He grew up in White Earth, ND and graduated from White Earth High School. He worked until his retirement as a farmer and in the oil fields for Hunt Oil Co. and Amerada Hess. He retired in August, 1994. Norman married Delores Darlene Booke on June 1, 1954 in Williston, ND. They lived briefly in Ray, ND before settling in Tioga where they spent winters in Tioga and eventually at the family farm. They had four children Ronald, Robert, Barbara and David. Delores died in January, 1977. Norman married Emily Pauline Gillis on July 1, 1978 in Minot, ND. They made their home on the Dahl family farm in White Earth and later in Tioga. They enjoyed winters in Mesa until moving there permanently. They had many friends and enjoyed many family visits with Norman’s son Ron and daughter-in-law, Deb, who lived nearby. In April, 2013, Norman and Emily moved to Boise, ID to be closer to her four children Calvin, Leilani, Ragnar and Laurie. They were living at Morning Star Senior Living at the time of time of Norman’s death. Norman was proud of his Norwegian heritage and courageously fought cancer for 14 years. He would proudly proclaim, “I am a Viking!” whenever faced with a challenge. His sense of humor served him well through many difficult health battles. He was loved by all who knew him. He loved Ole and Lena jokes and had a sense of humor to the end. He was a humble and kind man, who did not complain, even of the worst days. He will be missed deeply by those who know and loved him. His family is comforted to know he lived a full life, blessed with the presence of his loving wife, children and step-children. Norman is survived by his wife, Emily; his children: Ronald (Debra) Dahl of Gilbert, AZ, Robert (Patty) Dahl of Pelican Rapids, MN and Barbara (Robert Solinsky) Dahl of Idaho Falls, ID; his step children: Ruth (Ted) Thrush of Cochran, Alberta, Canada, Calvin (Beeb) Gillis, Lei Lani Gillis, Laurie (Mike) Nolan of Boise, Ragnar (Mary) Gillis of Garden Valley, ID, David Gillis, Edmond, OK; 17 grandchildren: Ron's son, Nikolai; Robert's children: Christopher, Emily, Michael and Julia, Barb's children: Natalie and Samantha; Laurie's children: Ali and Audrey; David's children: Emily, Cody and Michael; Lei Lani's children: Leah, Duffy and Cole; Ruth's children: Mark and Alan; and twelve great grand-children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores; his infant son, David; his parents; brothers: Clarence and Jim. Norman and Emily shared an extraordinary love that was never more apparent than in his last months as she cared for him. A blessed thank you to Emily’s children in Boise, St. Al’s Cancer Center, St. Al’s Hospice and Morning Star Senior Living Center for all their kind and loving care. We Entrusted Norman Dahl's Care To
Accent Funeral Home
A local landmark in Meridian, Accent Funeral Home has been serving the community since 1986. The business was first established with a vision to offer services in a comfortable, homelike atmosphere. This vision is reflected in our building, a Tudor-style home built in 1938 for a local postman. When remodeling the house to accommodate the funeral home, much care was taken to preserve the original architectural integrity of the building. The Accent Funeral Home holds a special relationship with the Meridian community and is sensitive to the area’s changing needs, providing service and friendship to comfort those we serve....
