Ervin Will Gifford
January 24th, 1929 - March 19th, 2013
Ervin W. Gifford, 84, of Homedale, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at home with his family at his side. Ervin was born on January 24, 1929 in Indian Cove, Idaho to George and Alice Gifford. He was raised and educated in Bruneau. At the age of 17 he joined the United States Army on December 5, 1948. During his time in the service the United States Air Force was formed. Ervin was Honorably Discharged from the United States Air Force in 1951. After being discharged he married Vera Holdren on February 24, 1957 in West Virginia. The two moved to Idaho where Ervin proudly served the people of Boise, Idaho as a dedicated and respected Police Officer. Ervin joined the Boise Police Department in 1962 and retired in 1989. After retirement he became a Deputy Marshall at the U.S. Federal building for the next ten years. He then became an instructor to the Idaho Chapter of the AARP. He was also the Regional coordinator and then State Coordinator of the AARP. Ervin spent his free time gardening and loved to spend time with his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Vera Gifford, daughter, Kay L. (Slate) May, granddaughter, Amanda (Brian) Hawkes, great-grandchildren, Alexus and Christian Hawkes, Sisters, Evelyn Wilson, Ruth Powell and Margeret Bryson. A memorial service will be held at 1:00PM on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Homedale. Inurnment will follow on Monday, March 25, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Bruneau Cemetery, Bruneau, Idaho. Service Information
