Leonard J. Witt
September 21st, 2015
Leonard J. Witt Leonard was born in Bismarck, ND to parents Gustav and Martha Witt. He lived his early ears in North Dakota, before moving to Washington State and then Oregon. He succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease shortly after his 90th birthday. He served in the United Sates Navy during WWII and the Korean War. The bulk of his business career was spent in the beauty supply industry. He retired in 1993 after 40 years. During retirement Leonard enjoyed working around his home and garden, where he raised giant tomatoes that were the talk of the neighborhood. He was married for over 67 years to his sweetheart, Elizabeth (Betty Jo) Witt. Together they raised three children: son Leonard “Oz” (Linda) of Eugene, OR, son David (Linda) of Minneapolis, MN, and daughter Elizabeth Witt (Ron Williams) of Eugene, OR. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his older sisters, Hilda and Viola, and younger brother, Eugene. Leonard loved his family, his many friends and most of all, his Lord. He was a member of Friendly St. Church of God in Eugene for many years, and most recently a member of First Baptist Church, also in Eugene. He loved reading and studying the Bible, teaching adult Sunday school classes and Bible studies. He will be greatly missed! A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015, 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Eugene. In lieu of flowers, contributions many be sent to Camp Harlow of the American Alzheimer’s Association.
