Martha "Dempsey" Grace Whatley

Martha Grace Dempsey Whatley, of Caldwell, formerly of Texarkana, Arkansas, died Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at her home. A viewing for friends and family will be Sunday, April 17 from 2-4 at Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Caldwell. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2011 at the Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Caldwell. Jay Hawkins and Bill Free of the Caldwell Church of Christ will officiate. Interment will follow at the Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell. Mrs. Whatley was born on February 22, 1922 at Texarkana, Arkansas to Roy A. Dempsey and Annie Laura Warren Dempsey. She grew up and graduated from Texarkana High School. She met Carl J. Whatley at Business College and married him on April 14, 1941 in Texarkana, AR. Martha spent most of her life as a homemaker, but when her girls grew older she worked as a secretary. In December, 1995, Martha and Carl moved to Nampa. Martha loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren, cooking and shopping. She always had a clean house and beautiful flowers that adorned her home. She loved the Bible and the Church of Christ where she served as an elder’s wife for many years. Martha is survived by two daughter’s and sons-in-law, Carol and Joe Spaulding of Austin, Texas and Marcy and Chuck Miller of Caldwell; a brother Warren Dempsey of Texarkana, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Mike (Kim) Spaulding of Austin, Texas, Maja (Thad) Ledgerwood of Greenleaf, Erik Miller of Caldwell, and Chris (Tiana) Miller of Vancouver, WA, and adopted grandchildren Jose & Grace Yanez. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, and a grandson, Kent Spaulding. The family would like to thank the staff of Heart n’ Home Hospice and Palliative Care for their support and service.
