Mertie M. English We lost our beloved Mother and Grandmother on Tuesday April 5. She will now be joining the love of her life, her husband Phil. Mertie M. English was the youngest child born to Francis and Florence Stone on September 23, 1921 in Keysor, Elbert County, Colorado. She joined her brother Norman and sisters, Grace, Trixie and Mary. This family moved to Wilder in 1935 where she attended and graduated from Wilder High School. She married Phil English December 12, 1939. Born to this union were five children. She spent most of her years in the Caldwell area. During that time she worked at Albertsons, Glen L. Evans fish fly and J.C. Penney’s. Her most important job was being a mother and homemaker. She loved dancing with Daddy and enjoyed her little dogs. She also enjoyed many crafts such as crocheting, sewing, knitting, ceramics and china painting. The family has received many precious gifts from her talents. She enjoyed working in her yard, attending to her many beautiful flowers. She travelled to England and Europe twice and celebrated her 73rd birthday in Paris. She is survived by her sister Grace Gordon of Limon, CO, children Elaine Grove and John (Dodie) English of Caldwell. Shayne (Marian) English of Rushden, England, Kent (Ginger) English of St. Charles, MO, Kurt English of Columbia, MO. Her grandchildren are J. Shannon English, Stacey J. Schossow, Thomas V. English, Alex English, Tia English, Audra English, Eric English, Austin English, Amy English and Courtney English. She is also survived by 9 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Phil, brother Norman, sisters Trixie and Mary and son-in-law Doyle Grove. The family would like to thank the staff of Autumn Winds, especially the staff in the Expressions wing, who gave her tender, loving care. They would also like to send a special thank you to Brock and the staff at XL Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, April 11, 2011 at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell, ID. A viewing will be held at the chapel Sunday April 10 from 6 to 8 P.M. Interment will be at the Wilder Cemetery, immediately following the service. Service Information
