Larry Dale Johns, 71, of Caldwell passed away Monday, December 13, 2010. Larry was born July 22, 1939 at Booth Memorial Hospital in Boise, ID. He was the 3rd child of Virgil and Vera Mae Wederski Johns. He grew up mowing lawns and doing odd jobs for neighbors and family. Larry joined the Army National Guard January 17, 1960 with basic training in Fort Ord, CA. He served at Gowen Field as an airplane mechanic. He joined the regular army March 5, 1962 and was sent to Korea with Peace Keeping Forces. He earned his GED while in Korea. He was honorably discharged in Fort Benning, GA on February 17, 1965. During his life, Larry took welding classes at Boise Junior College; auto mechanics at ITT to become a certified mechanic; and trained to be a building inspector. He worked for the State of Idaho highway department; at jobs through the Carpenter's Union Local #635; as part of the Cascade Dam project; as a building inspector; and as a truck driver. Larry met Linda DeWaard while living in Meridian, ID. They were married on February 26, 1983. In 1985, Larry and Linda bought 2 acres west of Middleton, ID. Larry retired in 2006. He liked to take road trips with Linda in their motor home. He collected model cars and liked working with cars. Larry is survived by his wife; daughter, Laurie Holloway of Boise; 3 step-children; 11 grandchildren; sister, Melva Johnson of Boise; step-father, Royce Fifer of Emmett; 2 step-sisters; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother and step-brother. Larry's Memorial service will be held at the Middleton LDS Stake Center (23644 Old Highway 30) in Caldwell on Friday, January 7, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Services are under the care of Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Service Information
