Sergeant Roberto Zamora Died on August 29, 2010 Sergeant Roberto Zamora, 22, was a team leader assigned to Company C, 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. He was born on March 9, 1988 and is a native of Caldwell, Idaho. He died as a result of injuries sustained during a motor vehicle accident. Zamora has deployed three times in support of the War on Terror, with a 14-month deployment to Iraq with Company B, 1st Battalion 28th Infantry Regiment, Fort Riley, Kansas. He deployed with 2nd Bn., 75th Rgr. Rgt, once to Iraq and once to Afghanistan. Zamora enlisted in the U.S. Army in August 2005. He completed One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Ga., as an Infantryman and attended the Basic Airborne Course also at Fort Benning, before being assigned to 1st Bn., 28th Inf. Rgt, at Fort Riley. Here he served as a radio telephone operator and fire team leader. Following this assignment, Zamora, volunteered to attend the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program in 2008 and was assigned to Company C, 2nd Bn., 75th Rgr. Rgt., as a grenadier and team leader. His military education includes the Javelin Training Course, Basic Airborne Course, Air Assault Course, Combat Life Savers Course, Combatives, Ranger Assessment and Selection Program and the U.S. Army Ranger Course. His awards and decorations include the Ranger Tab, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge. He has also been awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal with two awards, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal with combat star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Overseas Service Ribbon. He is survived by his wife Ashley Zamora and their three daughters, Rosalina, Analisa and Victoria of Caldwell, ID., and his parents Abelardo Zamora and Luz Baez of Greenleaf, Idaho. As well as two brothers, two sisters and numerous other family members. As a Ranger, Zamora selflessly lived his life for others while he distinguished himself as a member of the Army's premier light-infantry unit, which remains continuously deployed in support of the Global War on Terrorism. In every instance he fought valiantly as he served his fellow Rangers and our great Nation. A visitation will be from 5 until 8:00 PM with Rosary Devotions at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. A Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, September 8th , at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Caldwell, with Military Honors concluding the services at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell.
