Helen Lake The funeral for Helen M. Lake of Eugene, who passed away on August 25, 2015, will be held Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the Danebo Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. A viewing will be at the church from 2:30-3:45 PM, followed by the service at 4:00 PM. Helen was 99 years young, and passed away just 6 weeks short of her 100th birthday. She was born October 4, 1915 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Roy L. and Carol McDonough. She married Ralph B. Lake in Salt Lake, May 12, 1938. She graduated from East High School at age 16, and worked as a radio actress for KSL Radio, and also as a secretary until her marriage. Helen and Ralph moved to Eugene, Oregon January 1938, where two children were born to them, Carolyn (R. Conrad Schultz), and Ralph Bryant “Bry” (Leslie). Eugene was truly “home” for 77 years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served faithfully in many Ward and Stake callings. She was a brilliant teacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and a sterling example of the righteous principles she taught. She served as a Girl Scout Leader and as PTA President at both Whiteaker Grade School and North Eugene High School. She became a distributor for the Neo-Life Company and served a large clientele throughout Oregon and other states. She earned many company awards for her competence in this field. Helen was multi-talented. She was a gifted speaker, painter (oils, pastels, water colors), interior decorator, teacher, gracious hostess, drama director, and musician. She played the piano by ear and was always willing to share these many talents. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have all loved “marching” to her lively piano renditions. Into her 90’s she went to many health care facilities to cheer the residents with “sing-alongs”. She would often say, “If you can hum it, I can play it”. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 of her 4 siblings, her loving husband, and a baby grand-daughter (Lindsay Lake). She is survived by her 2 children, 10 grand-children, 34 great-grandchildren and a multitude of good friends. “Well done, thou good and faithful servant” Matthew 25:21 Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary.
