James was born April 30th 1931 to Clarence and Mable Sexton in Adrian, Oregon. He was a graduate from Wilder High School. He married Rose Stickley and to this union had four sons; Robert J. Sexton, Ronnie L. Sexton, Tony J. Sexton, and Billie Ray Sexton. James worked at an ammunition depot in Umatilla, Oregon, worked construction on the McNarry Dam in Oregon, and also on the Union Pacific Railroad as a car inspector. He moved his family to Caldwell, Idaho area and worked for Richardsons Feed Lot. He worked for Kit Manufactured Trailers, Ideal Trailers, then inventorying Circle K Stores. He was a Reserve Police Officer for the Caldwell Police Department. He loved police work. He went to work for the Wilder Police Department and at 50 years of age went to the Police Academy in Boise, Idaho. He graduated with high honors. He then became Wilder Chief of Police. Later he farmed for Phill Breshears in the Roswell Area. He retired and moved to Country Life on the Clark Homestead just out of Marsing, Idaho. When James and Bernice were married it brought 3 daughters into his life, Maria Lee Sims, Threasa Riley, and Janet McDaniel. There was never a dull moment at the Sexton household. Lots of laughter and sometimes tears. Fun and adventure always. James loved the outdoor life, fishing, hunting, and camping with his family. He loved oil painting, woodworking, reading, shoot um up westerns and later decided to learn to play the guitar. He was a jack of all trades, but master of none. He is survived by his wife, Bernice, two sons; Ronnie & Patti Sexton and Tony & Mary Ann Sexton, daughters, Maria Sims, Threasa & Steve Riley, Janet McDaniel, daughter-in-law, Diane Sexton, sister-in-law, Ruth Sexton, 16 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
