Norman Jenkins Potter
August 1st, 1930 - March 8th, 2009
Norman J. Potter passed away quietly at home Sunday, March 8, 2009 of age-related causes. He was 78. Norm was born Aug.1, 1930 in Payette,Idaho to John Milton and Nettie Margaret Potter. He graduated from Payette High School in 1949 after which he worked at a variety of jobs including the Union Pacific Railroad, owning a Texaco station in Payette, and driving for TCT Trucking until his retirement in 1996. He also served nearly 42 years in the Idaho National Guard, a great source of pride to Norm. He married Carla May Bacon in 1950 and they had three children, Nina, Dennis and Dennise. They later divorced. Norm married Norma Pierce on Oct. 27, 1967 and added three stepdaughters to his family; Tracie, Judi and Tori. The family moved to Caldwell in 1968. Norma passed away in 2006 after 38 years of marriage. Norm was passionate about sports, particularly golf which he played as often as his health would allow. He also enjoyed working in the yard, fishing, and going to auctions hoping to find that special treasure. He was a member of the Centennial Baptist Church in Caldwell. Norm is survived by his daughter, Nina Markow, her husband, Lorin of Lewiston, son, Dennis Potter, his wife, Becky of Caldwell, daughter, Dennise Kunkel, her husband, Eric of Beaverton, Or., daughter, Tracie Searles, her husband George of Caldwell, daughter, Judi Pierce of Caldwell, and Tori Carr, her husband, Jimmie of Kuna. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, his siblings, Jean Province and Ray Newsom of Weiser. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nettie, father, Milton, brother, Daniel and his sister Louise Cole. A viewing will be held Friday, March 13, 2009 from 10:00am until 12 Noon at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell, with a graveside service to follow at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell at 2 p.m. All friends and family are welcome to the viewing and the graveside.
