Catherine Louise Eaton

Catherine was born May 21, 1923 in Melba, Idaho to Charles Everett & Ada Ethel (Gates) Ivie. At the age of two, she moved with her family to Maxville, Oregon. In 1927, the family moved to Lewiston, Idaho where she attended school through the 10th grade. In 1939, the family moved back to Melba where she finished high school graduating in 1941. Catherine worked in Portland, OR after graduation at a diner. She later returned to Nampa and worked at the Forbidden Palace restaurant. She quit this job to marry Chester Louis Eaton in 1946, only days before the fateful explosion of the Forbidden Palace. After their marriage in Reno, NV, the couple bought a 40-acre farm on Deerflat Road in Nampa. During their 12 years on this farm, 2 sons and one daughter joined the family. In 1958, they bought a 160-acre farm in Star; farming there until 1965 when they moved to an 80-acre farm in Middleton. They retired from farming in 1974 and moved to an acreage on Farmway Road in Caldwell. Despite the hard work, Catherine would often comment on how grateful she was for having such a wonderful life living on the farm with her treasured family. After moving to Caldwell, Catherine worked for the S&G Green Stamp Redemption Center until it closed. She then worked at the Western Auto Store in Caldwell, and finally at Kitchen A’ware, which she enjoyed immensely. She later spent her time gardening, playing cards, and being a grandmother, which she loved very much. Catherine loved basketball while in high school and continued her passion with the Utah Jazz NBA team. A homemaker and retired “farmer-ette,” she was an excellent cook, creating memorable dishes and desserts for numerous family gatherings. She was very active in PTA while her children were in school, being an officer in both the school and district council at Meridian. She also worked at the Eagle Grill, a popular destination for the locals. She was a former member of Southside Blvd Club of Nampa, Richmond Community Club and Purple Sage Club in Middleton as well as Native Daughters of Idaho in Caldwell. She also volunteered for the Red Cross Blood Bank and worked on the election board in Caldwell for several years. She was an avid (and competitive!) card and game player in her later years, having a zest for life that she will be remembered for, including multiple “Grandma-isms.” She had a great laugh and loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren. Catherine is preceded in death by her husband Chester, and survived by her children Gayle (Rosemarie) Eaton, Vickie (Larry) Panek, and Gary (Pam) Eaton; 7 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
