Flahiff Funeral Chapels & Crematory-Caldwell
Alana Sharon Squires
May 27th, 2017
Alana Sharon Squires, 73, of Marsing passed away Saturday, May 27, due to injuries sustained in a car accident. Alana was born on Nov. 17, 1943, in Mountain View, California, to Fred and Eleanor “Ann” Holwerda. Alana grew up in Northern California, where her parents owned and operated the Country Club, and graduated from Mountain View High School in 1960. On Oct. 28, 1965, she married John T. Squires, son of Dewey and Lena Squires, and the two remained in Northern California for the early years of their marriage where John worked as a controller for two large companies. Their daughter, Gina, was born on May 4, 1967, followed by their son, Will, on May 12, 1969. The family moved to Idaho almost 40 years ago. Alana worked as a bookkeeper for a number of organizations. She spent the past 13 years as the coordinator for the Meals on Wheels program for the Marsing Senior Center and was passionate about assisting and caring for seniors who are home bound. She also continued to maintain the farm that she and John established, and among her greatest joys was being outdoors and spending time with her animals. Anyone who knew her knew how much she loved her dogs, cats, birds, horses, llamas and more. She had a soft heart and took in so many over the years who needed a home. Alana greatly loved being a mother and “Farmer Grandma.” Her family and friends will so miss her playful sense of humor, her bright smile and her unfailing love and dedication to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Squires, and her parents, Fred and Ann Holwerda. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Gina and Gary Ferguson and grandsons, Connor and Trevor Ferguson of Nampa; and her son and daughter-in-law, Will and Sherry Squires, and granddaughter Madeline Squires of Nampa. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, June 2, at the Marsing-Homedale Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a reception immediately following the service at the gazebo adjacent to the Sandbar in Marsing. Service Information
