Roy Kubosumi
June 29th, 1931 - January 15th, 2017
Roy Kubosumi passed away peacefully in his home on January 15, 2017. He has 85 great years of sports, family, fatherhood, farming, coffee talk, and time with friends to his name. Roy was born on June 29, 1931 in Idaho Falls to Kenichi and Kazuma Kubosumi. He was raised in a large family where he was the second youngest of three brothers and four sisters. He attended Ucon High School in Idaho Falls where he was active in all sports and excelled in basketball. Roy loved to bowl and joined a Japanese bowling league that traveled throughout the western states. He met Janet (Masako) Shiotani in Salt Lake City. They were later married in 1963 and settled on the farm in Homedale until he started to phase into retirement after over 50 years of farming. A simple and generous man, he took in his nephews over the summers for years on the farm. He spent hours helping them with baseball, taking them fishing, teaching them to work on the farm, and then hosted them and numerous friends, who became our friends, for countless bird hunting seasons. He was an amazing host. Roy was also a huge supporter of Homedale School sports, 4-H and served on the School Board for several years. He rarely, if ever, missed a game or activity his kids were involved in and hosted many a post-game get together. Roy encouraged and hosted several foreign exchange students from across the globe (Japan, Uruguay, Brazil, and Finland). For a busy man during the summer and harvest, he still managed to find the time travel to England, Germany, Japan, Hawaii and Alaska. He also enjoyed traveling with his friends and family making road trips to local sights as well as longer excursions to Mt. Rushmore and beyond. He took in the fall colors of New England and did the Branson, Missouri experience with very special friends. He found ice cream at every location he visited. He is survived by his wife Masako Janet, son David, daughters; Pam and Teresa, one sister; Joan Go, numerous nieces and nephews and two grandchildren; Cole and Kacie Kubosumi. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brother; Jim, George and William and three sisters; Kiyo Oshiro, Hanna Namba and Kimi Nayematsu. The family would like to thank the St. Alphonsus Hospice staff for their help and comfort in caring for our father. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association – Greater Idaho Chapter. Services will be held at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, 624 Cleveland Blvd., Caldwell at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 21, 2017. Burial is at Evergreen Cemetery in Ontario, OR (near TVCC) immediately following the Funeral Ceremony. Service Information
