Raymond Floyd Adams

Raymond Floyd Adams Raymond Floyd Adams passed away on July 1, 2015. Ray was born in 1928 in Portland, Oregon to Robert O. and Mary E. (January) Adams. He grew up in Portland, Molalla, Mill City, and Mehama, Oregon. After graduating from Stayton High School in 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a Quarter Master on a tanker ship. He was discharged in 1948 and came home to Mehama, where he married Evelyn Zolkoske in June of 1950. In 1957, they moved to Eugene where Ray worked as the manager of Burns Brothers Tires in Springfield. In 1966, Ray worked as a logger with Lagler Logging Co. in Mapleton OR, then in 1969 he co-founded and managed A & L Logging. He was an active member of Associated Oregon Loggers, Inc. and served as president in 1975. He sold his company in 1979 and went to work for various other logging companies until he retired in 1990. In 1994, he helped the Accident Prevention Division of Workers Compensation of Oregon rewrite and update logging rules and practices. Ray dedicated much of his life through training and education to help improve safety and prevent logging accidents in Oregon. He was an active member of his local Catholic Church and volunteered with his children's sports and scouting events. Ray is remembered as a wise, strong, driven man who motivated his crew to perform their best by treating them with fairness, honesty and respect. He was a much loved husband, father and grandfather that always gave a helping hand to all who asked. Ray enjoyed wood working from his at-home shop; he made many pieces of furniture and completed several remodels and updates of his home. He loved to hunt and camp with his family and he took many travel trailer vacations throughout the Western United States. He is survived by his wife Evelyn; sons Steven, Daniel (deceased), Jerry, Douglas, & Donald Adams; daughters Nancy Kernutt and Beverly Kelsch; sisters Betty Kincheloe, Cleo Rychard (deceased); and his brother Ronald Adams. Ray was also blessed with 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. There will be a funeral service at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Maxwell Rd. Eugene, OR on Monday, July 13th at 3:00 P.M. Funeral arrangements will be made by Poole-Larsen.
