Dorothy Pauline Payne
May 2nd, 2015
Dorothy Pauline Payne, affectionately known as "Dot", entered into rest, Saturday, May 2nd, 2015 surrounded by family in Danner, OR after a courageous one year battle against cancer. Dorothy and her twin sister Karen were born in Portolla, CA. Their parents, Roderick & Emily McKay were living at the Ruby Ranch near Jordan Valley, OR with their two small children Rod & Rena. Emily was not well and Rod sent her by bus to her parent's home in California. On Feb. 24, 1949, Dorothy & Karen came into this world prematurely & miraculously survived. Rod travelled to Portolla to work & the four children were cared for by family & hired help until Emily finally recovered. Dorothy's family moved to a farm in Harper, OR where she grew up with four sisters & three brothers. She always referred to her childhood as being hard work as well as a lot of fun. They milked cows morning and night, and also rode many colts growing up. She graduated from high school in Harper and attended college in Portland, OR. Dorothy loved her siblings and always looked forward to family gatherings. Dorothy married Ted Payne on June 12, 1970 in Vale, OR. They bought the Lowry Ranch on Juniper Mountain in Idaho from Ted's parents, Tex and Agnes. This is where they raised their family and made their home. She homeschooled their children until the oldest entered high school. Dorothy's love and enjoyment of taking care of the cattle and haying was reflected in her day to day life. She put in long days working outside but always found time to provide a big meal & care for her family. Dorothy was up first thing in the morning, reading the Bible and cooking a big breakfast which always included her famous sourdough hotcakes. In addition to the ranch responsibilities, she started lots colts over the years and enjoyed trapping bobcats & coyotes. She loved being outdoors and felt especially blessed to be surrounded by the beauty of the ranch everyday. Becoming a grandmother was one of the greatest joys of her life and she treasured every moment with each of her grandchildren. Dorothy was an amazing person full of faith, grace & endless joy. Her love for Jesus was evident to all who knew her and was the foundation and center of her life. Dorothy's sincere love and care for people was shown by her hospitality and her love of company. Her touching & genuine smile lit up her face & everything around her. Her smile will be greatly missed by her many dear friends and family. Dorothy is survived by her husband Ted Payne; children Polly & Cody Baldwin, Rena & Rick Britton, Jack & Rachel Payne and Paul McKay; grandchildren Jonathon and Ellie Brunko, Rossin and Fallyn Baldwin, Emily & Garrett Payne, Rickey & Sue Britton, Nathan Britton and Stacy Soelberg; seven great-grandchildren; brothers Rod & Mary Barbara McKay, Bob & Karla McKay, Joe & Joyce McKay; sisters Rena Uhalde, Karen & Bob Skinner, Kate & Mike Autio and many nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great- nephews that she absolutely adored. The legacy of her faith and love for family will be treasured in all of our hearts. She was preceded in death by her parents Rod and Emily McKay and her younger sister Michelle Mackenzie. The celebration of her life will begin with a viewing at Flahiff's Funeral Chapel in Caldwell on Sunday, May 10, 2015, from 5:00-7:00 pm. Her Funeral service will be Monday, May 11 2015 at 11:00 am on the lawn next to the Parrish Hall in Jordan Valley, OR with burial to follow at the Jordan Valley Cemetery. Dinner will follow at the Parrish Hall. Condolences may be given at www.flahifffuneralchapel.com Memorials may be made to the Michelle Mackenzie Run, Walk & Ride. Service Information
