Calvin (Bud) Brant, 88, passed away, January 13, 2014 from complications of a stroke. Cal was born on July 12, 1925 to Albert and Pearl Brant in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He moved, with his family, to Homedale, Idaho in 1935. While attending Homedale High School, he excelled in all sports but he had a passion for baseball with aspirations of becoming a professional baseball player someday. He also met the love of his life, Lillian. He was the football quarterback and she was the drum majorette. Upon his 18th birthday, he received notice from the Draft Board for induction into the U.S. Army. Two days prior to his leaving for the army, he and Lillian were married on Nov. 8, 1943. They celebrated 70 years of marriage on Nov. 8, 2013. Cal served the next three years with the U.S. Army, including 13 months in the European Theatre. After being discharged, he went onto attend several business schools. The following 2 years were spent teaching accounting and bookkeeping, when he took what he thought would be a temporary position at the Idaho First National Bank. This position turned into a forty year career where he started as a bookkeeper and ended his career as Vice President of Trust Branch Managers. Among some of Cal's activities were Boise Elks, President of Pioneer Toastmasters, Bench Lions Club, Boise Estate Planning Council and Chairman of United Fund Speakers Bureau. Cal and Lillian had a daughter, Vickie, and a son, Dennis. Cal enjoyed his time with his family and good friends. One of the high points of his life was building a cabin in Lowman, Idaho. Many special memories were made and wonderful stories told, as he gathered family and friends around the campfire. He loved to golf, hunt, fish and care for his two horses, Pete and Saber. He enjoyed his Riding Club and his monthly trail rides. Cal was a Banker by trade and a Cowboy at heart. Cal will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Lillian, daughter Vickie Collins (Roger), son, Dennis and his six grandchildren, Laurie Collins, Kristi Collins, Kelli Bryant (Joe), Brooke Collins (Chris), Ryan Brant (Kami), Lesley Brant (Dustin). He is also survived by 8 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 18th at the Marsing-Homedale Cemetery. A celebration of his life will follow at the Basque Center in Homedale. Service Information
