Herbert "Herb" K. Mason
January 16th, 1931 - September 17th, 2018
Herbert "Herb" K. Mason passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on Monday, September 17, 2018, at the age of 87. He was born in Elk City, OK to George Francis and Anna Marie Mason on January 16, 1931. He married Hazel J. Mason on September 10, 1949. He served in the United States Army and following his service spent most of his years working in the tire business for General Tire and Les Schwab Tire Center. Herb lived a life that was full of pride, joy, and happiness. He was an "Okie" at heart. He was an honest, simple, wise and humble man. He never liked to be the center of attention, but easily made friends wherever he went. Herb would say, he was a "good ol' boy" or “he’s a "keeper". His smile, humor and quick wit drew people to him. He had a unique way with words and jokes and will be remembered for saying things like, "Come on back now" or "Have a good ‘ern”. He will be greatly missed for his one-of-a kind sense of humor and quips. Herb was a family man. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandpa. He was so proud when he talked about his family. It was clear they were his pride and joy. He often referred to the ones he loved as "punkin," "love bug," or his "sweet babies" and he always said, "love you so much". Herb also loved his dear friend Gloria and her daughters Cindy and Charlene. Not long ago, he told them they were "bringing much happiness" to his life. He cherished their companionship with all his heart. Herb was also a true animal lover. He loved "critters" of all kinds and especially loved his loyal companion, J-Cat. Their relationship was unique; full of affection, loyalty and comfort. Herb will be greatly missed by all who had the opportunity to meet him and were fortunate enough to know him well. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Sue Maenaka and husband Mike; son, Jeff Mason and wife Debbi; son, Merle Mason and his beloved J-Cat. Herb will forever be in the hearts of his grandchildren, Jennifer (Brian) Drake, Brian (Tosha) Maenaka, Kelley (Dennis) Adams, Jesse (Samantha) Mason, Dakota (Jennifer) Mason and Cassandra Mason, and his great grandchildren Decker, Conley, Michael, Layla, Kaitlin, Adaline, Juke, Sterling, Parker, Jayden, Carter, Avery and Sydney. Herb was preceded in death by his wife Hazel, son James Francis, brothers, George and Vic Mason and grandson, Bobby Mason. The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to Gloria, Cindy and Charlene for loving and caring for Herb along with Terri, Julianne, Leslie, and Jim of Abode Hospice and Mini Angel Wings.
