James Alfred Johnson
August 18th, 1931 - August 9th, 2023
James A. Johnson 91, of Caldwell, Idaho. Died peacefully at his home on August 9, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. James was born in Arcadia, Nebraska On August 18, 1931, to James and Christina Johnson. He was one of six children and was preceded in death by two brothers; George and John, and two sisters; Eva and Edna and both parents. The family moved to Sunnyslope from Nebraska in 1938 when dad was 7 years old. He went to Sunnyslope School until the 8th grade during World War II when he had to quit school to go to work during the war. Dad farmed until he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. James spent most of his life farming in Nampa and Homedale. He also enjoyed trucking with his sons for several years. He met the love of his life; Arlene Payton, and they were married in 1957. They resided in the Treasure Valley for over 66 years and raised four children. He is survived by his brother William “Bill” Johnson and his wife Eunice, and their four children. James Johnson of Hammett, Idaho, David (Kit) Johnson of Caldwell, Lisa (Rod) Frazier of Nampa, Brenda (DeWayne) Caldwell of Wilder, and eight grandchildren; Todd, Courtney, Rachel, Raven, Jake, McKenzie, Trace and Mayci, and Four great grandchildren; Emmett, Ruby, Theo, and Tanner. James loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, and gardening. He liked to travel and had a love of restoring old cars. Dad loved the family gatherings, and his favorite thing was homemade vanilla ice cream. He was always ready to eat an hour before the meal was ready. He was a great dad, grandpa, and brother! He will be greatly missed.
