Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel - Payette
John Draper Ahlstrand
June 7th, 1926 - February 17th, 2019
John Draper Ahlstrand, age 92, a long-life resident of Fruitland died Sunday February 17, 2019 at home. He was born in Payette on June 7, 1926 and moved to his family's new home when he was two days old. He lived in the Fruitland home most of his life. He went to Fruitland schools. When WWII broke out he wanted to serve his country. So, he quit school and lied about his age in order to join the military at the age of 17. When the war was over he was stationed state side in several areas. After he completed his military service he returned to Fruitland where he met and married Florence Anderson. They briefly lived in Payette, then his father became ill and they returned to the family home to help him. Eventually they purchased the home and surrounding farm. They had two daughters, Darlene and Lisa. They had been married for 64 years when Florence passed away in 2011. She was the love of his life and he missed her greatly. John had many side jobs over the years to support his family, but always in his heart was the love of farming. He was first and foremost a farmer. He loved growing things and did it well. He farmed his land until the age of 88. John also loved sports and was a long-time supporter of the Fruitland Grizzlies. He and his friends frequently sat in the top row in what become known as the crow's nest. The last couple of years he had been unable to attend due to physical limitations, but he missed it and often listened on the radio. He is survived by his daughters, Darlene (Pete) and Lisa (Russell), two grandsons Russell II and Randy and two great- grandchildren Russell III and Lilly. Service Details. Service When: Thursday, February 28th, 2019 Location: Funeral Home Address:
