George Pace George W. Pace died at age 89 in Bend, Oregon on December 10, 2014. He died of natural causes related to Alzheimer's disease. He was born on February 28, 1925 in Ranger, Texas to Iris A. and J. Roy Pace. He moved to Oregon in 1946 and lived in Coos Bay and Oakland areas before moving to Springfield in 1961. He worked for Weyerhaeuser as a Timber Feller for 25 years and retired in 1986. During many of those years he served as a Shop Steward for the local IWA. George was a life time member of NRA and Oregon Hunters Association (OHA). He volunteered countless hours for OHA by serving on the Board, fund raising, assisting Oregon Fish and Wildlife habitat management, and testifying on wildlife causes at the State Legislature. Survivors include children: Barbara Blalock of Salem, Stan Pace of Beaverton, Robert Garr of Oakridge, Neva Smith of Peoria, AZ., Bill Garr of Vida, Teri Scheid of Bend, and David Pace of Toledo, 17 grandchildren, and other family members. George was preceded in death by his brother Pvt. J. Roy Pace, Jr. KIA in Normandy, France, wife C. Bernice Pace, daughter Janet L. Barber, and grandsons Bradley Johnston and Micheal Smith. George will be remembered not only for his love of hunting and fishing, but for his mentoring of many others in these pursuits. If he wasn't along a river, in the mountains, or on the ocean he could be found gardening or helping a family member or friend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the George Pace Fund in care of and mailed to Clare Bridge Memory Care, Attention: Karen, 1099 NE Watt Way, Bend, OR. 97701. Private graveside services will be held at Springfield Memorial Gardens on December 19, 2014 at 2:00 pm, and Celebration of George's life and a potluck will be at Walterville Grange on January 10, 2015 at 1:00 pm.
