Sonya Elizabeth Wentworth of Colorado Springs passed away on March 4, 2024. She was born on August 29, 1975, to the union of Judith and Benning Wentworth III at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado.

Sonya graduated from Widefield High School in 1994, where she took an interest in playing the oboe and participating in drama productions. She then earned a degree in Outdoor Recreational Management from Springfield College in Massachusetts. She also received a master's degree in Adventure Education from Prescott College in Arizona. With all her knowledge, Sonya worked as a camp counselor and Ropes Course Director at Camp Fire in Oregon and Boston College Camps for 12 years. She loved working with the youth to build their confidence on the ropes which gave her joy and happiness. She was a licensed camping and hiking guide in New York and New Hampshire. She was also a certified river guide in New Hampshire. For some time, Sonya also worked at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and Cheyenne Village assisting others in achieving their potential.

Sonya's adventurous personality and passion for the outdoors resulted in her earning the nickname “Root” as her love for nature was deep, like the roots of a tree. Even in her free time, Sonya was outdoors camping, participating in marathons, hiking in the mountains and reading. Spending time with her family and the family cats and dogs was very important to her. Sonya always brought a smile to those around her.

Sonya is preceded in death by her grandparents Dorothy and Benning Wentworth Jr. as well as Ruth and Earl McCormack.

She leaves to cherish her memories to her parents Judith and Ben of Colorado Springs; brother, Ben (Jackie)Wentworth IV; two aunts; two nieces, Aspen and Braelyn Wentworth; and one nephew, Toron Wentworth; and many friends that she made over the years. She was kind and compassionate to all.

She will be missed dearly.
