Robert G. Weaver, Sr.

Robert Glenn Weaver, Sr. of Fort Myers, Florida, died March 13, 2024 under the loving care of Hope Hospice and The Preserve. He was 93 years old.

Robert (Bob) was born to Ruth Elizabeth Weeter Weaver and Mahlon Wayne Weaver on April 10, 1930, in the small town of Lamartine, PA.

Bob was married for seventy years to the love of his life, Mabel Weaver. He was a wonderful father to his children, Judy Weaver, Robert Weaver, Jr. (Buakhai), and Sylvia Powell (Randy) who survive. Bob was a proud grandfather to his grandchildren: Aaron Stahl (Marion Elizabeth), Dr. Kristin Powell (Gabe), Jason Weaver, Dr. Joshua Powell (Jennifer), Melissa Walilko (Matthew), Luke Powell (Emily), Bree Weaver, Johnny Weaver (Medploy), Danny Weaver, and Sara Weaver. Bob also leaves behind eight beloved great-grandchildren: Winter Stahl, Kathryn Powell, Helen Powell, Amelia Powell, Sol Stahl, Kamdyn Stahl, Jameson Stahl, and Cordelia Walilko and a great-grandson who is on the way. Bob is also survived by his brother, Daryl Weaver and brother-in-law, Tom Amsler and several beloved cousins, nephews and nieces.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel, in 2023, parents and two sisters, Rea Jean Elder and Helen Amsler.

Bob was a proud veteran of the US Navy where he served on the USS Leyte during the Korean War. He was also a pilot and loved flying small planes.  He was a past President of the Cub Club, now known as the Fort Myers Flying Club.

Bob and his beloved wife Mabel were married in Sanford, FL on January 23, 1953. They immediately drove up to Pennsylvania where they then raised their family.

Bob taught his children how to hunt and fish and how to work hard.  He was a carpenter, a realtor and sold Nationwide Insurance for many years in Pennsylvania.  After he and Mabel moved back to Fort Myers, he obtained his contractor’s license and built custom homes in the Lee County area.

Bob was always involved in the life of the church.  He was born just steps away from the United Church of Christ in Lamartine where he became an elder and Sunday School teacher.  He loved singing in men’s quartets, also!  He was an amazing singer with a gorgeous baritone voice. In Fort Myers, he was a long-time member of Grace church where he sang in the choir and taught the Sojourner’s Adult Sunday School class for many decades. He also used his builder’s skills to help many people from the church and in Lee County.

Bob was a great lover of nature.  He took his family camping many, many weekends.  With his late father’s boat, he took his family fishing on different reservoirs in PA, and on the Caloosahatchee in Fort Myers.  He is greatly missed by his family and friends, but is reunited with his beloved wife, Mabel, and is rejoicing in Heaven and has seen the Face of God.

A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held April 27, 2024 at 11:00, at the Fort Myers Shores Campus of Grace Church, 14036 Matanzas Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33905 .

Akin-Davis Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials can be made to Grace Church-Fort Myers Shores Campus or Hope Hospice.
